Anyhorn shape, which gradually expands from a small inlet to a largeopening, will act as a physical amplifier for sounds applied to thesmaller end. When coupled to a loudspeaker it improves its efficiency.However, a full size horn that would work at low frequencies would makefor an impractically large cabinet. By folding the horn back on itself(so that the inlet can be near the outlet), you can significantlyreduce its size, without compromising the effect.
